Monday, May 30, 2005 - Memorial Day

Hey all - just wanted to give a shout out to all our friends in the services today. Daniel, we're thinking of you, stay safe. Thanks for keeping the world safe for spaceship rock.

We had a little time to practice this weekend, and we're trotting the new tune Fern Milk (footnote Teri Greene) out for use on our 3 dates this weekend. If you're in Oklahoma, Lubbock or Abilene, swing by and catch us (get more details on the showdates page.

Friday, May 27, 2005 - Live Archive Tape

Today's live archive is an audience recording from a set we did on 4/20 at the Perpetual Motion warehouse. It's a totally improvised track called Icarus. (Don't forget that you can get it via podcast, too.)

Thursday, May 26, 2005 - Matt Young memorial tomorrow

Tomorrow night (Friday, 5/27) in Galveston, if you're around, swing by Whiskey's American Pub (20th & Postoffice). There's a memorial concert for Matt Young. Matt, the drummer for CitiZEN Change and several other projects, passed away this last month at the age of 29. Check out the flyer and some of Matt's grooves.

Sunday, May 22, 2005 - Cezanne

Hey all - thanks so much to all of you who came to the Cezanne show last night. We had an amazing time, and it was really because all of you made it so special. The room was packed to the hilt (they even had to turn people away).

We've heard a little snip of the multitrack recording (thanks Kirk!) and it sounds like it came out great. So you'll be hearing more of it, for sure. Thanks to Bill, Erin & Amy for keeping Cezanne running, and to all our friends in the music community who came out to support us.

Friday, May 20, 2005 - Cezanne Tomorrow!

OK, tomorrow is the big show! Cezanne (4100 Montrose, upstairs) will be hosting an evening of Drop Trio madness. We're multitracking the show, and may be making a live album out of it. We'd love to have you there as part of it.

FYI, we will also be on the radio (KPFT) on Saturday afternoon, as part of the Smokin' Joe's Roadhouse series. We'll be collaborating with Kenny Cordray and DJ Sun on a 5 piece all-improvised instrumental broadcast. Pretty cool, eh? So tune in around 4pm if you want to check it out.

Thursday, May 19, 2005 - Gnappy at FJF

If you're looking for some good music tomorrow night (Friday), might we suggest you check out Gnappy at Funk Jazz Fridays. Burnin' good jazz funk ("acid blazz and junk") from Austin, TX.

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 - Holy Crap

First, please accept our apologies if you've been having trouble reaching our web site the past couple days. Our web host had serious problems, so we've switched hosts. (If you're looking for hosting, might we suggest you NOT try Globat.com.)

Second, THANKS to all the new friends we met last night at the Meridian, opening for the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. You guys rule!

Third, our biggest show of the year to date will be this Saturday night at Cezanne (4100 Montrose). Show starts at 9pm, tickets are $10 - get there early, it's a small room and may sell out.

Monday, May 16, 2005 - Tonight at the Meridian

Hey - so, get this, tonight we'll be playing at the Meridian. We were just added to the show last week, but we're really excited about it. The headlining act is the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Jimmy was the former drummer for the Smashing Pumpkins, and his new project is incredible. Come out tonight if you can!

Sunday, May 15, 2005 - Elephants!

We had a total blast last night at the Elephant Room. The crowd was great, and we met lots of nice new folks. Thanks to Eric, Ben, Kim, Andrew, Jason, and all the other cool folks who came out to support us for our first big show in town. You guys rock!

Tonight, on KTRU, Ian will be interviewing Jimmy Chamberlin, drummer from the Smashing Pumpkins, who now has a new band called the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. They play intricate instrumental-heavy jazz-inflected rock. They're playing at the Meridian tomorrow night (Monday) and we'll be the opening act. Tune in today at 7pm to hear a phone interview with Jimmy!

Saturday, May 14, 2005 - Tonight At The Elephant Room

Join us tonight at the Elephant Room in Austin, TX. We'll be playing the whole night - 9:30 pm - 1 am. Love to see you there!

Friday, May 13, 2005 - Refried Funk

So, tonight at Funk Jazz Fridays, you can witness the birth of a brand new band. The band is called Jubal Kindred and Refried Funk. It's composed of several members of the band Stucco Fish (you may have seen them a few times at Brasil last year), with a few new folks in the mix as well. Go by and check it out, show starts at 10pm.

Also tonight, if you happen to be downtown, come by the Main Squeeze - part of the Orange Show's Art Car Weekend. Ian will be one of the illustrious judges for the "one man band contest". Should be interesting. :) It happens on the corner of Main and Prairie, at 7:30pm.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 - 49 Media

Came across a new site called 49 Media that indexes interesting web feeds of audio, video, etc. Basically, a combination of stuff from a variety of cool sources. They've indexed the Drop Trio live archive (check it out)

There are lots of other Audio feeds indexed, like a Grateful Dead hour, an outsider music mix (with a Windows startup sound remix), a Brazillian music blog, and the ever cool Six*Eyes blog. Go take a look.

Monday, May 09, 2005 - Charting on KTRU

As we mentioned last week, we've been getting some spin on Rice radio, KTRU. Turns out, last week we were in the top 20! So keep those requests comin' and maybe we can get up to single digits. :) You can even make a request online.

Sunday, May 08, 2005 - Groovefest

Tonight at Last Concert Cafe, go check out the Groovefest. It's a festival put on by Jeremy Horton (of Moses Guest), and it's got a great list of bands:
Go! Go!

Friday, May 06, 2005 - Time Travelers

Hope you all enjoyed our set tomorrow at the MIT Time Traveler convention. If you won't have gotten a chance to seen it, we posted an MP3 from a song we'll write in their honor called January Thirty Fourth. Share and enjoy.

Oh, and starting today you can now subscribe to our live archive as a podcast. Figures, don't it?

Wednesday, May 04, 2005 - shows 'n stuff

You've all got your calendars marked for our May 21st show at Cezanne, right? Good. (Or if you're in Austin, our May 14th show at Elephant Room.)

Saturday night:So as you can see, there's absolutely no excuse for sitting around doing nothing this weekend. Unless you're sick as a dog, like I am, in which case, drink plenty of liquids and rest up.
