Wednesday, September 29, 2004 - Teaser

We're getting closer and closer to releasing LEAP. Here's a little teaser we just did in flash (make sure your sound is on):

We're new at this whole Flash thing, so let us know if you have any problem seeing it.

Tuesday, September 28, 2004 - Big D

We're gearing up for a trip to Dallas this Thursday. Drop Trio is playing at Club Dada as part of the New Music Festival. Though the drive up 45 can be tiresome, we're psyched for the trip to Deep Ellum.

If you're up for an early (8:15) and rocking set, meet us in Dallas!

Sunday, September 26, 2004 - Fat Cat's and Houston Rock

Made it to Fat Cat's (aka Mary Jane's) last night to listen to some great music.

Moonshot Radio made their way down from Dallas to open the show. They played a tight set of bopping songs. Arthur Yoria made the scene with his guitar and crooning.

The Astra Heights brothers made a homecoming from Los Angeles and got the crowd out for a rocking set. Too bad the've moved away from Houston - these rockers put on a smart and fun show.

Modultor capped off the night - super tight. These guys are hitting the road pretty hard these days - glad to catch them while they're in town. Awesome set - plenty of far out keys, songs about robots - imagine that, Drop Trio digs these guys.

Sure was nice to have a night of great music as a spectator.

Thursday, September 23, 2004 - Bringing it Back to Brasil

Brasil - Funk Jazz Friday @ 10!

After an exhausting but ruling trip to Austin for the ACL festival, we've been in the workshop this week. We'll have some new tunes ready for a welcome return to Brasil this week.

Thursday, September 16, 2004 - To the limits

This weekend, various members of Drop Trio are off enjoying the many sights and sounds of Austin City Limits. There are a couple cool afterparties we know about, including one with our buddies Plump (Saturday night at Headhunters w/ Mikado) and one with our friends Collect All Five (Saturday night at the Austin Daze compound - see more info). So, if you're hanging around a-town this weekend, get yo azz to one of those spots. Maybe we'll see you around!

Wednesday, September 15, 2004 - Tie Dye to the rescue

Wanted to give a shout out to our man, Alan Cunningham with Tie Dyed Productions. They came in on short notice last week and did a killer job on the sound for the show. If you need sound reinforcement and rentals in Houston, he's the guy to call.

Sunday, September 12, 2004 - The Party's Over?

Brad from Gnappy was right - it was "one of those weekends." Last night's show at the Elephant Room smoked. Austin sure got a heavy dose of funk jazz last night. We all had a blast this weekend and it really showed in the music.

So here's a toast to Buck, Brad, Marcus, Kevin of Gnappy and Andy, Grady, Gah, and Ben of Bagg: thanks for sharing your talent with Drop Trio and Texas!

Saturday, September 11, 2004 - Elephant Room Tonight

Last night's show at Last Concert Cafe was another killer show. Huge thanks to everyone who stayed late for Drop Trio - glad we could shut 'er down in style. We also had the pleasure of working with Jason Priesman on sound.

Bagg and Gnappy had great sets. Our 3 band tour is turning out to be a great opportunity for us to experience each other's music and learn from each other. Can't wait for tonight's show at the Elephant Room in Austin!

Friday, September 10, 2004 - Last Concert Tonight

Tonight: Gnappy, Bagg, Drop Trio @ Last Concert!

We have witnessed this show, last night in Denton, and we can promise that it will be freakin' awesome. Here's a little treat from last night - the debut of a tune from our new album, called "Robot Suit I":

- Robot Suit I (MP3, 4.6 MB, 3:54)

Tonight, the doors open at 9 as usual. First band plays at 9:30, Drop Trio hits the stage in the vicinity of 11:30. See you there!

Tuesday, September 07, 2004 - 3 Bands, 3 Cities, 3 Days

We're gearing up for our big 3-city tour this weekend! We're fortunate to be playing multiple shows with 2 great bands - Gnappy (from Austin) and Bagg (from Denton). Thursday night is at Hailey's in Denton, Saturday night is at the Elephant Room in Austin, and...

FRIDAY NIGHT - LAST CONCERT CAFE!

It's going to be an incredible throwdown evening with all 3 bands. Come check it out, you won't regret it.

Monday, September 06, 2004 - Off To The Presses

Leap is now official done and has been sent off to the plant for production! We're pretty excited. Early listener reviews confirm what we already suspsected - this record IS a big leap for us, but not so far out that people can't vibe with it. We'll let you decide for yourself soon ... be on the lookout for a flurry of events in early October to celebrate.

Saturday, September 04, 2004 - KVLU Tonight

Hey - you can listen to an interview with Drop Trio on Beaumont's KVLU tonight with John Montalbano at 1am. We'll be driving home from Lake Charles at that hour, so we'll be listening as we drive through town. You can listen online at KVLU.org.

- Smokin'

Last night in Beaumont, we had a fiery show at the Vortex. We played over 3 hours, and weren't even ready to stop at last call. Something about having a great crowd of people up front dancing just keeps us going. It may also be the Hoegaarden. Anyway, we had a great time and the people of Beaumont were gracious, as always. Thanks to John Fulbright for putting the show together, and to Tommy at LocalMusicGuide.net for the promotions (and the t-shirts!).

We're chilling at my in-laws place now, heading to tape a radio show this afternoon and then off to Lake Charles tonight. See you there!

Friday, September 03, 2004 - Beaumont or Bust

We're heading off to Beaumont in a few minutes, to catch up with the good people of the Golden Triangle and bring them some of Houston's finest instrumental avant-garde prog funk jazz. The show is at the Vortex (2930 11th Street), and starts at 10pm. See you there!

Thursday, September 02, 2004 - Leap Artwork

The artwork for Leap is done, and we're on the verge of sending it off to the pressing plant in Austin. Here's the cover:

Many thanks to Mr. Nino Batista for an amazing job on the graphics (and, oh yeah, the music).
