Our
live archive got a mention (a whole column, actually) in "All About Jazz" today.
Check it out.
(And for those of you keeping score, yeah, we're a couple weeks behind on new live archive tracks ... we've been traveling for the holidays, but we're back, so look for some new tracks soon.)
Hope your holiday seasons are excellent. Merry Christmas, or whatever
holidays you celebrate. And Happy New Year. :)
Bit of happy news - got word today that Drop Trio has been selected as a showcasing performer in
South by Southwest 2005. Last year's showcase was one of our most fun shows of the year, so we're looking forward to this year (not to mention the whole festival). We don't know the exact date yet, but it'll be sometime during March 16 to 20.
(Do you know any festivals you think we'd be good at?
Let us know! Have funk jazz, will travel.)
Leap got a great review in this week's Houston Press -
check it out! Thanks to David Cobb (also of
Houston Calling) for his great writing and open minded approach to music.
(And for the record, though
Patrick has been Drop Trio's permanent bassist since April, it was actually
Nino who played on the record ... the article wasn't totally clear about that.)
Brasil, The Vortex (Beaumont) and the Proletariat rocked. The new songs are coming together nicely. In fact last night at the Proletariat we actually played an entire set of "new" songs. By "new" I mean, nothing from our
first CD. This was a first. For those of you keeping score, here was the set list:
Big S.O.,
Mothership
Shelby Gets a Haircut
Barmecide
Robot Suit I
-
Cognac Morning
L.U.G
We'd like to say thank you to everyone for making '04 a great year for Drop Trio. Our next show will be at
Helios January 29th. We'll have more details as the date approaches.
The
live archive will continue to be updated weekly during our break as well as the blog.
Funk Jazz Fridays will continue at Brasil in '05 as well.
Don't forget to take some time and
vert with your family over the holidays.
This is it folks! The final Drop shows of '04 are here. After this weekend we are actually taking over a month off to finish writing some new material. We will be back in the studio in March '05 so we can get another album out by the fall.
Tonight Brasil.
Funk Jazz Fridays. New songs.
Saturday Beaumont. We return to the
Vortex. KVLU will be playing tracks from "Leap" tonight sometime after 9pm. You can listen online
here. Also check out the new addition to the
live archive. It is a selection from our first Beaumont show from earlier this year.
Sunday we're back in Houston at the
Proletariat. This will be a rockin' show so don't miss out. We go on just before 10. Also on the bill
Southern Backtones and
AM60.
Oh yeah,
Rush was nominated for a Grammy.
Rule!
For a second year, local music blog
Houston Calling has named Drop Trio in the
top 10 local albums of the year. Sweet! Go
read the whole list, it's got great commentary and excellent choices.
Do you have all your holiday shopping done yet? We didn't think so. Might we suggest that
Leap and
Big Dipper are excellent gifts? Order now and mention in the comments that it's a gift, and we'll even gift wrap it. :) And you can
order them both for $15. What more reason do ya need? :)
It is a story as old as the hills. (Well, that is, if the hills are about 2 years old.) Drop Trio will be at Brasil tonight for
funk jazz fridays. Gettin' wild, gettin' wacky, breaking out the
Prophet 600. B there or B square.
(Or B at Cezanne's, where Keith Karnecky is having his 60th birthday party ... we'll understand if you wanna swing by that for a little while too!)
