The first set of dates for our spring west coast tour has been announced. Check 'em out on our
shows page ... and if you see a hole in the schedule near you, and know a good place we should play,
let us know! Thanks.
Here's a cool little audio clip from
Nino Batista, former DT bassist:
Ard Them Icarus (mp3)
Nino sez:
"I have spent the past week tweaking my newly purchased instrument modelers in Logic to create the quintessential 1986 Nintendo Entertainment System sound. To be more versatile, I also used MiniMoog and Mellotron modelers on top of it the video game stuff. So it's not 100% NES, but still old skool."
This clip has a couple "old skool" DT references in there, too. Good stuff, Nino!
Make sure to also check out
his contributions on the 11 + 11 project, remixing material from members of King Crimson.
We had a great show at the
Continental Club (Gallery) in Austin this week.
Righteous Buddha and
McLemore Avenue put on fantastic shows. We ended the night with special guest,
Ephraim Owens on trumpet. Pics below.
Check out what the latest issue of Keyboard had to say about
Cezanne:
"Many successful bands have one album that's widely known as their first, but which isn't actually their earliest recording. Cezanne will be that album for the Drop Trio, a keyboard driven, groove-oriented fusion group out of Houston, TX. Recorded live at the venue for which it is named, Cezanne has asymmetric meters and airtight bass and keys hook ups. What stands out most, though, is that all of its tracks are motivically compelling. Keysman Ian Varley drives acoustic piano and synths without getting caught showing off even once. The music is centered and upbeat, with a sound recalls Page McConnell's Vida Blue, but with slightly less flower power, or perhaps a slightly more angular Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Pick this up at the band's website, or buy a DRM-free download from Magnatune." - Carl Luma
Thanks to everybody in Beaumont and Bryan for coming out to our shows this weekend. We had a blast playing for you guys. Thanks also to our good friends Grass (congrats on the new CD!) and Topaz.
This week, we'll be in Austin for SxSW. We play at midnight on Thursday at the Continental Club Gallery (upstairs). See you there!
